Parental Responsibility Solicitors
Automatic Parental Responsibility (PR) vests in biological mothers and fathers who have jointly registered the birth after 01/12/2003.
PR also vests in an unmarried father if a Child Arrangements Order is made in his favour by the court.
PR is a legal responsibility. There are certain decisions which cannot be taken without the consent of both parents, for example:
- taking a child permanently out of England and Wales
- changing a child’s surname.
In certain circumstances the court can vest PR in others, for example:
- A Special Guardianship Order
- A Care Order
- An Emergency Protection Order
