Sydney joined Bhatia Best in June 2021 and assists the Solicitors in the department in the progression of both Public and Private Law matters. She has experience dealing with Care Proceedings, Domestic Abuse, Divorce and Child Arrangement matters.

Sydney provides assistance and support throughout the life-cycle of a case, ensuring that the solicitor with conduct of the case has everything they need to do their very best on behalf of the client.

Sunahjit Mahal

Assistant Solicitor – Family & Child Law – Derby

Sunah found her passion for Family Law shortly after graduating with her LLB Law Degree while working for another firm in Nottingham. She brought with her the skills she had already developed and her already well established ability to put her client’s needs first, to listen and support throughout what is invariably a difficult and stressful time for them.

 

Sunah prepares cases via drafting legal documents, compiling and checking court bundles and interviewing clients so that all the necessary information is taken down accurately. Sunah also engages in advocacy on private and public law matters including Non-Molestation cases, providing valuable assistance and ensuring intervention on behalf of vulnerable victims of domestic abuse.

Stuart Barlow

Solicitor – Family & Child Law Department – Derby

Stuart qualified as a solicitor in 1977. He trained in Nottingham, worked for 10 years in South Wales before returning to the East Midlands. He joined Bhatia Best in 2017 and brought with him a wealth of experience.

Stuart is not only a member of the Law Society Children Law Panel but is also an assessor for those who wish to demonstrate that they meet the exacting criteria required to join. Stuart is also a published author, having written 4 books on the law, and frequently delivers training to solicitors and practitioners around the country.

To Stuart, every client is important, and all deserve to have their case presented in the best possible light.

Shazana Kauser

Solicitor – Family & Child Law – Derby

Shazana joined us as a Solicitor having completed her training at a Legal 500 firm.

She represents parents and family members in Care Proceedings where the welfare of a child is considered of utmost importance. Shazana also handles Non-Molestation and Occupation Order proceedings and is one of our Divorce specialists.

Shazana undertakes much of her own advocacy and represents clients in Family Courts across the country, taking a truly hands-on approach and managing the full life-cycle of her cases.

Sabeel Hussain

Trainee Solicitor – Crime – Derby

Sabeel is an extremely active Police Station Representative and Crown Court Litigator.

His experience in the Police Station is vast and has been gathered through his unmatched ability to multi-task and efficiently process cases while always recognising the importance of taking time and care to achieve the best outcome. As a high-volume practitioner, Sabeel is always in demand. He never forgets however that communication is the foundation of good client relations.

In the Crown Court, Sabeel litigates some of our most serious cases, including murder, GBH, drugs conspiracies, serious sexual assaults, fraud and terrorism. Working closely with instructed Counsel (Junior and QC) his attention to detail, positive attitude and tenacity have seen him achieve many positive results.

Pauline Doherty

Pauline is a highly experienced Solicitor in our Family Department. Primarily based in Nottingham, Pauline specialises in representing children, parents and other family members in all types of family cases. She is often appointed by the Children’s Guardian to act on behalf of children.

Pauline is an Accredited Member of the Law Society Children Panel and a Resolution Accredited Specialist in Children Law. She is also a specialist in Forced Marriage and Honour-Based Violence.

Nigel Dicks

Nigel is one of our most experienced criminal advocates. A former sole practitioner and regular before Derby Magistrates Court, Nigel moved to Bhatia Best in 2003 to be part of a larger team and bring with him his years of knowledge.

As a trial advocate, Nigel is an expert at getting to the heart of the issue and representing his clients interests robustly before the Court. He is highly adept in the art of persuasion, making him the ideal choice when it comes to defending cases involving skilled cross examination of Prosecution witnesses.

Lynsey Wadkinson

Partner – Crime – Derby

Lynsey qualified as a Solicitor in 2010 and is now a Supervisor of the Derby branch of the Crime Department. While maintaining an active caseload of her own, Lynsey leads the way in ensuring that every case is given the best attention by the most appropriate individual in her team. Meticulous by nature, any case that Lynsey directly manages is always thoroughly prepared.

As Supervisor in Derby, Lynsey ensures that those in her team all the tools they need to be at their best at all times.

Louise Pynegar

Practice Manager

Louise joined Bhatia Best in 2014 and was already a highly experienced Legal Cashier. She later became Head Cashier and is now jointly engaged in the administration of the business, helping to ensure the efficient running of the firms financial and administrative systems including Human Resources and the Finance Department.

Louise ensures that the firms practices and policies are compliant with Specialist Quality Mark criteria, Solicitors Accounts Rules, HMRC, Legal Aid Agency and Solicitors Regulation Authority Rules.
